The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) is a pan-African network of centres of excellence for postgraduate training and research in mathematical sciences, and public engagement in STEM. Its mission is to empower talented young Africans to be creative leaders in Science and Technology. The first AIMS centre opened in Cape Town, South Africa in 2003; since 2011, AIMS has opened additional centres in Senegal, Ghana, Cameroon and Rwanda.

Each AIMS Centre provides expertly tailored academic and non-academic programs, training around 60 African students per master program each year and preparing them for leadership in the domains of academia, government and industry. The AIMS academic program relies on top international lecturers who teach in a 24-hour learning environment.

Research Assistant – German Research Chair for Applied Mathematics and AI!

The German Research Chair for Applied Mathematics and AI at AIMS Rwanda invites applications for a Research Assistant position (PhD required), starting in October 2024.

Job Opening Specifications:

  • Experience: Demonstrated success in developing and securing funding for project proposals, with a specific focus on sustainability systems.
  • Educational Background: PhD in Computer Science and/or Applied Mathematics obtained within the last three years.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong background in Computer Science and Mathematics.
    • Demonstrated ability in designing and implementing machine learning models, with hands-on experience in relevant methodologies and tools
    • Experience in teaching and academic supervision at the university level.

  • A formal letter of application + A one-page research and academic Statement
  • A current CV + Two letters of Recommendation
