With the objective of promoting the study of mathematics from the basic to tertiary levels and demystifying the concept of mathematics as a difficult subject, AIMS Ghana opened the 5th Maths Camp dubbed ‘Allotey Math Camp’ on Monday 6th August 2018. 53 students from 38 Junior and Senior High Schools from 6 Regions in Ghana and 21 volunteers from Africa and Europe are participating in the camp scheduled from 6th to 11th August 2018 at AIMS Ghana campus, Biriwa.
The Allotey Math Camp is a unique opportunity for students in Ghana to learn mathematics outside the classroom methods by using games, simulations and puzzles to unravel the mystery of mathematics in everyday lives. Participants will spend one week learning new and exciting mathematics taught by a team of national and international volunteer maths educators, teachers and lecturers.
The camp is an initiative of the AIMS Ghana Alumni as a give back to Ghana in partnership with the Supporting African Maths Initiative (SAMI) and the African Maths Initiative (AMI).
Present at the opening ceremony were the President of AIMS Ghana, Mrs Lucy Quist, Mr. Moulaye Camara and Prof. Emmanuel Essel; Head of Department of Mathematics, University of Cape Coast.
