AIMS Rwanda Graduates 41 Students

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

AIMS Rwanda Graduates 41 Students

Kigali, July 9, 2021 – The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) Rwanda will hold a virtual ceremony to honour 41 graduates (37% women) from 14 African countries, recipients of the AIMS Masters in Mathematical Sciences. Featuring a virtual commencement address by AIMS CEO Lydie Hakizimana, the ceremony will mark AIMS Rwanda’s 5th cohort graduates of the AIMS Structured Master’s Program.

The 10-month Structured Master’s Program provides a firm grounding in end-to-end skills, from problem formulation, estimation, prioritisation, and generally applicable mathematical and computing methods in big data, computer security, climate science, financial mathematics and related fields, to clear and concise scientific report writing. Delivered by lecturers from top universities and research labs from around the world, the aim is to equip students with the tools and confidence for policy analysis and decision making. With this latest addition of 41 graduates, AIMS Rwanda now boasts over 250 alumni, 38% of whom are women.

“It is with great pleasure that I want to congratulate you for the successful completion of your Master’s in Mathematical Sciences at AIMS Rwanda,” said Professor Sam Yala, AIMS Rwanda Centre President. “Today, you have reached an important milestone in your life. This year, because of the COVID-19 situation and in compliance with the measures taken by the Government of Rwanda, we cannot organise a physical graduation ceremony to celebrate your achievement officially. On behalf of the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences in Rwanda, I would like to recognise the tremendous work and continuous commitment that you have demonstrated throughout the year that led you to succeed in this very demanding one-year Master’s program. I believe that AIMS has equipped scientifically and nurtured you with its core values of Excellence, Respect, Integrity, and Pan-Africanism. You are now well-positioned to unfold your potential to bring innovative ideas wherever your future endeavours will bring you, for the socio-economic transformation of your country and our continent,” he said.
